Reading Time: 2 minutes

The City of Cape Town says it is providing flood kits and sandbags to various informal settlements in the Metropole which have been flooded due to heavy rainfall on Saturday.

Affected areas include Gugulethu, Philippi and Happy Valley.

The City’s Disaster Risk spokesperson, Charlotte Powell, says a number of trees were also uprooted by strong gale force winds, which accompanied the cold front in the Mother City.

“Roofs were blown off in Phumlani Informal settlement, Ottery and Macassar. Many trees were uprooted across the city. Power outages were also experienced in Philippi, Browns Farm, Hout Bay, Fish Hoek, Ronderbosch, Mitchell’s Plain, Wynberg, Constantia, Bishopscourt, and Plumstead. The Electricity Department will be attending to all reports. Various roads across the city have been flooded and these are being attended to by the Roads and Stormwater Department.”
