The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) says it is on track to release the results from this year’s general elections.

With nearly 78% of the national vote counted, the African National Congress (ANC) is in the lead with 57%, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with nearly 22% and then the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with just over 10%.

IEC Deputy Chairperson, Janet Love, says vote-counting and verification is moving along steadily.

“Our hope is that we will have all the results through by the end of today. We are seeming on track for tomorrow and so things are moving steadily as we’ve all indicated. We’re not trying to unduly rush we are making sure that they are checked very carefully before,” says Love.
