The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State has appealed to residents to come in their numbers to vote on 8 May.

The IEC says 27 out of 28 political parties have successfully signed the code of conduct pledge ahead of the general elections.

The pledge is to comply with the electoral laws to ensure that elections are free and fair elections.

IEC General Manager Itumeleng Liba says they are concerned about the increasing service delivery protests in the province.

“27 political parties stand up. At this stage, there are no serious problems that we are experiencing except, of course, something that is of concern to us, that is the safest delivery protests in the province. But we will continue to engage with leaders of different political parties and we are appealing to everyone to fully take part in the elections and visit our stations on the 8 May and vote.”
