The Electoral Commission has extended voting hours for South African citizens in London until 11:30 pm on Saturday night because of a religious festival at Trafalgar square.

Over 9000 South Africans have registered to vote in this year’s General elections in the UK, which is the highest number of registered voters living abroad.

Close to 30 000 South Africans have registered to vote abroad this year.

Queues and confusion were some of the complaints the last time around, but there has been staff drafted in from the Electoral Commission to help to simplify the voting process. The road has also been closed and queue management processes are in place.
