Reading Time: 2 minutes

As the 2019 elections come closer the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) is also in the midst of appointing three new commissioners.

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng continues the interviews for the positions on Tuesday.

The Chief Justice and a panel of experts which include the public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane wanted to highlight and address key concerns that have plagued the IEC in the past, leaving no stone unturned.

IEC commissioner candidate Lebohang Watseba Pheko says:”There is multiple vote tabulation, and that is one mechanism that is used to ensure that whist the votes are being counted, there are audits to make sure there are other ways to ensure a good outcome.”

The IEC has a lot of responsibilities; part of the IEC’s responsibility is to make sure that all South Africans have an option to vote.

The panel put forth all concerns that have been major issues within the IEC and they asked the candidates how they would fix these issues and also how they would ensure that the IEC remains reliable.

The elections will come with the hopes of some new changes within the IEC.

The IEC panel all spoke of a brighter future and promised a fair and legal election.
