IEC considers a rerun of one voting station in Metsimaholo

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Metsimaholo Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is reportedly considering a rerun in one voting station after conceding that using wrong ballot papers in Thursday’s municipal elections had prejudiced some parties.

It is now in the process of approving a re-run and that is now delaying the announcement of final results which were expected earlier on Thursday afternoon after the IEC said all vote counting was concluded.

SACP said Thursday the mistake of swapping ballot papers showed incompetence of IEC staff, but the IEC insisted its staff have capacity.

Now the IEC is reportedly in session considering a rerun in that voting station next Wednesday.

The IEC will have to say how it avoid further prejudicing affected parties if it allocates proportional seats without results from that voting station.
