The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it’s confident that it has put in place strong security measures to prevent fraud in next month’s general elections.

South Africans head to the polls on the 7 May.

Deputy Chairperson, Terry Tselane, says police and private security services will co-operate in guarding IEC stations across the country.

He says that they make sure that the ballot papers are transported to different areas and that the papers are not transported with the security material such as the stamps that validates the ballot paper.

“Our IEC municipal officers have put in place measures that will make sure that the ballot papers are protected, we can still provide the kind of security that will prevent fraud,” he says.
