Hospital Health Check campaign better than NHI: DA

The DA says the National Health Insurance will not succeed, especially in solving what it calls the country’s disastrous public health system. The opposition party addressed the media in Johannesburg on Thursday on its Hospital Health Check campaign.

The campaign involves party members conducting oversight and inspecting public clinics and hospitals across the country.

Among some of their findings is the critical shortage of staff, medicine and broken machines.

DA national spokesperson Refiloe Nt’sekhe says the country’s health system is in a serious state of collapse.

“You see Aaron Motsoaledi wanting to roll full steam ahead and roll with NHI, and we have said as the DA, if they try and roll out this NHI which is not going to work without fixing what is broken, they will take 10 to 15 years to implement. I doubt they will take the 10-15 years, because they are already failing in doing the basics. We’ve always said we believe in universal health care as the DA, and that will take 5-8 years to implement which is better for South Africans in the long term.
