United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader, General Bantu Holomisa, has dismissed as “baseless” claims by Cyril Ramaphosa that coalitions are a failure. The African National Congress (ANC) president campaigned in Nelson Mandela Bay over the weekend, saying that coalitions like the one in Nelson Mandela Bay, don’t work.

Holomisa was campaigning in Ngqeleni in the Eastern Cape.

Holomisa was warmly received in Detyane, near Ngqeleni. He promised residents there to improve their socio-economic position if the UDM moves into positions of power.

“Ramaphosa has a short memory; in 2004 we were in coalition with the ANC in KZN and it worked well. Coalitions work well; it depends on who you are in partnership with. What he is saying is baseless he needs to be reminded.”

Holomisa also responded to allegations by Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane and Ramaphosa, that Nelson Mandela Bay is filthy.

“The issue of waste management is a national issue. Everywhere I go, even in Sandton; it is dirty. National government needs to buy pick-up trucks and supply the municipality.”

Residents of the rural Eastern Cape village demand better services.

“We don’t have a clinic, we have to rush people on the gravel road to hospital and they deliver on the road. Secondly, the RDP houses are falling apart.”

“The roads are in such a poor condition and the youth do not benefit on things such as Msobomvu. We only hear that on TV and they take drugs. We don’t have roads and the school only ends at grade 7.”

Holomisa promised to take their issues to the office of the president or address them directly if residents afford him a chance to govern.
