H&M protest damaging EFF’s reputation: Analyst

Political analyst Lesiba Teffo has described EFF members’ ransacking of international clothing retailer H&M’s shops in Johannesburg and Cape Town as a serious criminal act which could have unintended consequences.

The protesters are angered by an H&M advertisement which they term racist.

The advert featured a black child modelling a sweat shirt, with the slogan, ‘coolest monkey in the jungle’.

H&M apologised for the campaign and withdrew the advert earlier this week.

Teffo says the EFF has damaged its reputation.

“It is promoting animosity and antagonism and again saying indeed, it is us and them. We have to find a way and be adult enough to say indeed, we may unintentionally do certain things, but we may help each other to resolve them in a manner that especially that could lend some lessons to those who come in the future.”
