High levels of mistrust affect ANC: Mathekga

Political analyst Ralph Mathekga says high levels of mistrust are deeply affecting the African National Congress (ANC) branch nomination process.

The ANC top brass are set to continue their meeting on Monday to discuss tensions over the legitimacy of some of the contested provincial structures.

The party’s leadership is under pressure to uphold the Pietermaritzburg High Court ruling that nullified the ANC KwaZulu-Natal 2015 elective conference.

“Some of the senior leaders are trying to actually manipulate the branches. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with lobbying, it just has to be done openly, people have to present their case and say that this is the person that should be nominated for this and that. We’ve seen in KZN, a dispute regarding that, so it’s about the level of mistrust in the ANC,” explains Mathekga.
