President Cyril Ramaphosa leads the Heritage Day celebrations in Upington, Northern Cape, on Tuesday. The President emphasised on the importance of learning another language as a form of identity. The theme for this year celebration is the promotion of our diverse indigenous languages.

Government is working to ensure that African languages are taught at all schools in the country.

The !Xun and the Khwe community in the Northern Cape say they feel like an afterthought – deserted by a government that once promised to integrate them into the new South Africa.

Heritage Day: Celebrations around the country

A festival of colour, rhythm and song swept thought the streets of Pretoria on Tuesday. Thousands joined the Annual Social Cohesion Carnival to mark Heritage Day.

King Letsie the third of Lesotho has told Basotho living in South Africa to emulate his ancestor, Moshoeshoe the first, by practicing peace and diplomacy. The Basotho King was speaking at Heritage Day celebrations in Katlehong on the East Rand.

Keeping in line with the UN declaring 2019 the Year of indigenous languages, Heritage day will on Tuesday echo the sentiment.

She unpacks her love for storytelling and taking on stories that include indigenous heritage and traditions that have been forgotten.
