Thousands have packed the James Motlatsi Stadium in Klerksdorp in North-West as the National Heritage Celebrations get underway.
This year’s Heritage Day theme is “Celebrating 20 Years of Democracy: Tell Your Story that Moves South Africa Forward”.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, is expected to give a keynote address at the event.
Meanwhile, North West Police Spokesperson Thulani Ngubane says security has been enforced. “We will not tolerate any display or carrying of dangerous weapons. People must not take alcohol and any other things that would make them misbehave, and on the road they must cooperate with the law enforcement agency, our traffic officers will be there. So we appeal for a celebration and we are appealing for respect of the rule of law because police will not hesitate to take action and arrest any individual.”
