Heavy rains hit Western Cape

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Heavy rains have continued to fall over the Western Cape overnight with some places, like Grabouw in the Overberg, getting up to 60 millimetres of rain.

Heavy downpours and gale force winds have resulted in flash flooding across large parts of the Cape Peninsula.

Although the rain has been welcomed by most, it has caused flooding in some parts of the province.

Cape Town weather forecaster, Riaan Smit, says temperatures have also dropped to below 10 degrees in some parts.

He says the rain is expected to clear up by Tuesday, “Very cold conditions associated with that and the wind is still very strong especially over the interior. The gale force winds have subsided quite a bit but with temperatures dropping down quite a bit, we can expect further snow on a higher ground in the Western Cape and the southern parts of the Northern Cape. We’re still expecting further rain during the course of the day, more in the form of showers and conditions starting to clear up tomorrow.”
