Head of the Hawks Anti-Corruption task team unit, Major-General Zinhle Mnonopi, has been suspended. She was implicated by former deputy minister of finance Mcebisi Jonas in his evidence at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in the past week.

Jonas claimed that Mnonopi had tried to kill a case where Ajay Gupta was accused of having tried to bribe him with R600 million and a ministerial post.

Head of the Hawks, Godfrey Lebeya has told the media that Mnonopi was served with a notice of suspension on Thursday.

This was based on allegations that she interfered with the investigations and acted without impartiality.

Mnonopi is now the first to face the music as she’s been suspended following Mcebisi Jonas’ testimony.

He told the commission how she tried to influence him to drop the case where the Gupta brothers tried to bribe him saying he needed to sign a statement confirming he won’t pursue a case in the future.

More people are expected to face the law as the commission continues.
