Gupta-owned properties in India have been raided by the income tax department in that country.
The raids started at half past ten local time, at the Gupta hometown of Saharanpur.
Properties of their family friend Arma Gupta were also raided. Officials have also seized several documents from the properties.
The reasons for the raids are still unclear.
Meanwhile, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has told the Justice and Correctional Services Committee that there was never any complaint lodged about the Gupta family’s involvement in the Estina Dairy Project in Vrede in the Free State which started in 2013. She says allegations about the Gupta involvement only emerged last year when the report on the dairy Farm was completed. Mkhwebane is appearing before the committee to ask for additional resources for her office.
