A 37-year-old Guatemalan, arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after being found in possession of drugs, will appear in court soon.

The drugs have an estimated value of R1.8 million.

The police’s Katlego Mogale says the man, who was in transit from Sao Paulo in Brazil to Beira in Mozambique, was arrested on Tuesday after customs officials stopped him and searched his luggage.

Mogale says they found that his suitcase had a secret compartment with two blocks of powder which was suspected to be cocaine.

“He was arrested by SAPS members and will be appearing in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s court soon on charges of possession of illegal drugs,” says Mogale.
