Grahamstown prepares for another festival

Reading Time: < 1 minute

It’s time again for an annual ritual. As it has done every July for four decades, Grahamstown rises out of its dormant state and transforms into one of the largest and most diverse arts festivals that can be found anywhere in the world.

The streets are already filled with merchants setting up shop. White tips of enormous performance tents rise out of the village green.

Every conceivable wall, pole, sidewalk, and car door has at least one poster advertising a fringe play or stand-up act. Rugby players on the Rhodes campus break out into song, creating the first of many tunes that will be heard over the next ten days.
