Reading Time: 2 minutes

Former First Lady Graca Machel says it would have been great for untruths about Winnie Madikizela-Mandela to be cleared while she was alive.

Referring to the late icon as her big sister, Machel spoke at the Nelson Mandela Foundation Memorial for Mama Winnie at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.

Constitution Hill will open an Exhibition of Mama Winnie on Thursday.

Madikizela Mandela was one of them but many others are forgotten

Former prisoner Cecile Palmer says:”Here I want to challenge the ANC, I want to ask you why do you put weak women at the head of women ministries, it’s time you got serious, lets repair this country, it’s our job.”

Machel pleaded with South Africans, who she says are usually harsh, to understand that Zinzi and Zenani have lost the only parent they knew for most of their lives.

Graca Machel says: “Don’t you think it would have been great for her to have all the untruths which were allowed to live with us about her to be cleared while still amongst us, don’t you think it would be good for mama to hear from all races just to say how unique she is in our history.”

Meanwhile, Grammy Award winning Flutist Wouter Kellerman and the Soweto Gospel Choir, Thandiswa Mazwai, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Film maker Anant Singh all paid their tributes with their music and film.
