The Minister of Women in the Presidency, Bathabile Dlamini, says young women are becoming impatient about the government’s inaction on issues of gender violence and women abuse.

Dlamini says this inaction is resulting in the escalation of violent acts against women at all levels of society.

She was speaking at a Young Women Empowerment Conference at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Dlamini’s comments comes at a time when women organisations are putting pressure to institutions of higher learning to adopt comprehensive policies to fight gender violence.

But Dlamini’s harsh words were not only directed at universities, but also at her own party and government.

She urged young women to create their own structures to fight gender violence.Dlamini encouraged them to be pro-active in defending their rights.

The conference is attended by students, women organisations and other stakeholders.
