Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Cyril Ramaphosa says in a world driven by greed, South Africa is comforted to know that there were people like Dr Zola Skweyiya who lived among us.

Speaking at Skweyiya’s funeral service at the Christian Revival Church in Pretoria, Ramaphosa says Skweyiya was committed to a better and efficient public service.

The President says Skweyiya was the father of the “Batho Pele” policy intervention which challenged government to put its people first. Ramaphosa says government is working to restore the dignity of South Africans in his honour and others who have departed .

Redistribution of land remains a priority, Ramaphosa added.

The President says Sweyiya was a gentle soul and righteous. He described him as a noble man with intergrity. ” A man who would choose to die than sell the birth right of his people.”

Ramaphosa says government will continue to draw inspiration from Skweyiya’s life. “He loved his country.”
