Soweto fashion designer says he’s encouraged by Cyril Rampaphosa’s message urging South Africans to buy local products. He believes this will go a long way in benefiting local entrepreneurs. Tshepo Storm is a fashion designer from Meadowlands, Soweto. In 2005, he started his own fashion label called Broken Storm from his Soweto home.
While there are challenges in the fashion industry, he acknowledges that South African are increasingly supporting local designers.
In 2002 the face of fashion was not as bright as today’s fashion. People actually preferred to go to shops but today people are more open to come to and place orders for wedding gowns and suits from local designers. It’s more appealing now to be a fashion designer.
