Condolences pour in for the Malema family

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Words of comfort are trickling in for the family of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema.

Malema lost his grandmother Koko Sarah Malema during the early hours of Saturday morning.

ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa has appealed to the Malema family to stay strong during this difficult time.

He’s also advising them to honour mam’Malema the best way possible for the important role she has played in her grandson’s life.

In a statement, Ramaphosa says he had personal encounters with Malema’s grandmother and found her to be a humble person.

Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela and African People’s Convention (APC) leader Themba Godi have also expressed sadness over the news.

APC leader Themba Godi has expressed sadness, saying the Malema family and the greater EFF community must find the strength to strive for a better country, building up to the 8 May general elections.

He spoke during his party’s final rally in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

“On behalf of the APC, we would want to say to the leader of the EFF and the family that we wish to pass our heartfelt condolences and solidarity with them on this occasion. The passing away of anybody, especially the elderly is like the burning down of a library in our African tradition. We hope that they will find strength and not be destructed.”
