One of the prime suspects in the Glebelands Hostel killings is due to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court south of Durban on Wednesday.

Thirty-two-year-old Mondli Mthethwa is the eighth suspect arrested in connection with hostel murders in December 2017.

The man arrested in connection with the criminal activities at the notorious Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi is also suspected of being involved in other murders.

Recently, it was believed the hostel dwellers were fighting over the allocation of beds.

Mthethwa was arrested days before New Years’ Day on charges of possessing an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.

His victims include 30-year-old Tholakele Ngcangatha who was killed at the hostel in August 2017.

He had been on the police’s most wanted list for a long time, before he was caught after a police tip off.

In his previous appearance in court, it transpired that Mthethwa has three pending cases against him, including murder.

Hundreds of people have been killed at Glebelands in recent years.
