Gauteng Social Development MEC Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe passed away at a Johannesburg hospital on Friday evening.
Prior to her appointment as MEC after this year’s general elections, she was a long-serving member and chairperson of the Social Development Portfolio Committee in the Gauteng Legislature.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura says she was also in the forefront of fighting Gender-Based Violence and spearheaded the provision of support for the survivors.
Makhura’s Spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says: “Premier David Makhura has sent his condolences to the family of MEC Khawe who passed away last night on the first of November 2019. Ms Khawe was hospitalised, she actually then left us, unfortunately. She had been in and out of hospital.”
Education MEC David Makhura says he is saddened by Nkabinde-Khawe’s passing.
