The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) says it has concluded the capturing of elections results of the Lesedi Municipality in Heidelburg, Merafong in Carletonville and Rand West, west of Gauteng.

However, there’s still outstanding results from the big metros Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.

The commission says over 1900 voting districts have been processed so far.

With over 55.8% of the votes declared in Gauteng, the African National Congress (ANC) has over 1 million votes so far. The Democratic Alliance (DA) follows with more than 603 000 votes and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) at over 313 000 votes.

“In terms of the three metro’s Ekurhuleni is sitting at just above 80%. We still have to do some work in Joburg, it is sitting at 55%, and Tshwane at 59%.  Because of fatigue the teams have been hard at work since special vote days and on Election Day they did not sleep. Because we are managing something that’s sensitive, we have to release them to go and rest,” says electoral officer for Gauteng Thabo Masemola.
