Reading Time: < 1 minute

As South Africa marks  national disability month from November 3 to December 3, many people with disabilities are still facing discrimination when accessing the labour market.

The Constitution stipulates that every citizen with a disability has the right to a life without discrimination.

Director of the Gauteng Provincial Association for Persons with Disabilities, Bhina Chiba, says they want to change the way people perceive person’s living with disabilities.

“We came to existence due to a need that was identified to bring together organisations rendering services to people with disabilities. We’ve identified other needs in the communities in Gauteng. We link up with employers to try to change the perception and myths that people with disabilities cannot be employed. We try and sensitise employers and promote the employment of people with disabilities.”
