The Gauteng Health Department has expressed concern over clusters of coronavirus (COVID-19) infections linked to funeral gatherings in the province.
The province has the second-highest number of infections in the country at 18 978 and 114 COVID-19 related deaths.
Under the nationwide lockdown, funerals are allowed to take place with no more than 50 people in attendance. Strict social distancing and hygiene protocols must also be adhered to.
Department spokesperson Kwara Kekana has called on residents to adhere to lockdown health regulations.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa have increased by 4 966 to 92 681. South Africa has now recorded a total of 1 877 COVID-19 related deaths.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has sent his condolences to the friends and loved ones of those who have lost their lives to the novel virus.
“Regrettably, we report a further 46 COVID-19 related deaths: 11 from Eastern Cape, three from KwaZulu-Natal and 32 from Western Cape. This brings the total deaths to 1 877. We wish to express our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased,” says Mkhize.
