The Randburg Magistrate’s Court has heard how Investec Chairperson Fani Titi feared for his life after his long time friend Peter Paul Ngwenya referred to him using the K-word.

Ngwenya is facing a crimina injura charge.

The feud began after a business deal between the two friends turned sour. Titi says that the trouble began when he refused to make payments to Ngwenya.

Ngwenya is said to have sent a text message to Titi calling him a “Qwa Qwa K***”.

The Investec executive testified that the message left him fearing for his life. He says his fear was based on Ngwenya’s history of military training.

Titi also stated that the use of the word by a former Robben Islander was dehumanising considering the latter’s struggle credentials and social stature.

Closing arguments in the matter will be heard on Wednesday.
