Free State Stars pile more misery at Wits

Free State Stars narrowly edged the league champions Bidvest Wits by 1-0 during their Absa Premiership league encounter at the Bidvest Stadium on Friday night.

The strike from Thamsanqa Teyise on the 33rd minute of the match was enough to sink the beleaguered Clever Boys.

This victory inspired the Stars to the second position on the log table with 25 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns that are at 28 points.

Wits came to this match hoping to collect maximum points following their major signings to bolster their squad to fight relegation axe. Garvin Hunt gave newly signed players Edwin Gymah and Lehlohonolo Majoro debuts.

Hunt charges remain deep-seated at the bottom of the log with 11 points in 15 matches.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg United defeated Ajax Cape Town by 2-1 at the Cape Town Stadium. The Team of Choice came from behind to snatch three points from Urban Warriors with goals from Deolin Mekoa and Siyanda Xulu while Tashreeq Morris scored for the hosts.

United is now sitting at the sixth position with 21 points in 15 matches, Ajax remain at the 15th place with only 13 points collected in 15 matches.
