Opposition parties in the Free State say they will be boycotting the State of the Province Address (SOPA) by Premier Ace Magashule in Parys on Tuesday.

The Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) say Magashule’s continued stay at the helm of the provincial government is a clear violation of the constitution.

The opposition parties say they will not honour Magashule, who has been implicated in various alleged corruption scandals.

EFF leader in the province Kgotso Morapela says, “The reason why we are not attending the State of the Province address as the EFF… for quite some time we have been saying that Ace Magashule is a rogue leader who doesn’t take the people of the Free State seriously. We have seen it in the report on State Capture – he is highly implicated on what is happening on the Vrede Dairy – so we find it wrong to legitimise wrong things done by Ace Magashule all along.”
