A Deputy Director of the National Treasury says a system of free tertiary education is the right step to support needy students and ensure that the majority of South Africans have access to study further after matric.
Mampho Modise, speaking at a presentation on the 2018 budget at the University of KwaZulu-Natal‘s Westville campus, emphasises that the system should be implemented in such a way that it does not fail in the process.
Modise also says the increase in VAT must not be exaggerated because people will only be paying R1 more for every R100.
