The 17 African National Congress (ANC’s) Maluti a Phofung Municipality councillors in the Free State, whom the party expelled last month, say they will approach the High Court to prevent By-elections taking place in the area.

The party’s provincial executive committee axed the councillors, who include the municipality’s executive mayor, following recommendations by the party’s National Disciplinary Committee.

They are accused of misconduct.

The councillor’s spokesperson, Paratlane Motloung elaborates,“We are approaching the High Court to interdict the IEC and the municipality from going ahead with the By-elections since the councillors are appealing the decision of the NDC of the ANC.”
