Foreign nationals’ houses torched in North West

Rustenburg police in North West have criticised the community of East End suburb for torching three houses belonging to foreign nationals this past week.

They suspected the foreigners of being behind the disappearance of a 14 year old girl, who had been missing for a week. However, the girl was found in nearby Boitekong with a 20-year old man, who has since been arrested for statutory rape.

Police spokesperson Elsabe Augustine explains says the community also suspected that the foreigners’ houses were being used as brothels.

“There were allegations made that there were ladies coming in and out of these premises. Then the community acted on that, and that is why they then on these allegations, took the law into their own hands. And that is a very dangerous thing to do, and we would like to appeal to the public, please remember that we are the law enforcers. If there are problems, the police will address the problems. Do not take the law into your own hands, that only worsens the situation and it is never a solution,” says Augustine.
