Five of six Pollsmoor Prison escapees rearrested

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Five of the six inmates who escaped from Pollsmoor Prison outside Cape Town on Sunday night have been rearrested.

The prisoners aged between 20 and 24 escaped by bending the burglar bars in their cells and using a makeshift rope of bedding and clothes to climb over the fence.

Regional Correctional Services Commissioner Delekile Klaas says the hunt for the last remaining escapee Siphenanthi Ntantiso continues.

“The joint team has now managed to arrest five offenders from the six that escaped. Only one member is at large and already following the leads, and we are certain that he should be arrested very soon. Most of these offenders are youth offenders they don’t have money so naturally, they will go to people they know. They will go to their families; they will go to their neighbourhoods. So most of them were found in their neighbourhoods.”
