Five people arrested for threatening Pikitup manager

Five suspects have been arrested for allegedly assaulting and threatening to set alight the general manager of Johannesburg’s waste management entity, Pikitup.

The suspects were part of a group of protesters who have been picketing outside Pikitup offices in Braamfontein since Monday demanding employment.

The manager was able to escape unharmed.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department Spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says the suspects doused the manager with petrol with the intention of setting him alight.

He says the manager fortunately managed to escape.

The five will appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on Friday to faces charges of assault with grievous bodily harm.
