Police are investigating an incident in which five people were killed and 30 others arrested during a hostage drama at the International Pentecost Holiness Church in Zuurbekom, west of Johannesburg.
Police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters says they also seized 25 firearms. She says the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In November 2018, two factions from the same church had a violent confrontation. The church member says the leadership battle shows no sign of ending.
