Five people have been killed in a collision between a minibus and a truck in the Mthatha CBD in the Eastern Cape.

Fifteen others were injured and have been taken to hospital.

The crash occurred early on Wednesday morning at the intersection of Sprigg and Sutherland Streets when a truck collided with the minibus, resulting in the truck slamming into nearby shops.

Traffic officials say all the deceased were travelling in the minibus from Durban to Port Elizabeth.

The road is partially closed.
