Filming of “The Long Journey of Poppie Nongena” begins in Cape Town

The filming of the groundbreaking South African novel by Elsa Joubert, “The Long Journey of Poppie Nongena” (Die Swerfjare van Poppie Nongena) has begun in Cape Town.

The legacy film will feature Clementine Mosimane as Poppie while Nomsa Nene, who portrayed the iconic role on stage, has been cast as Poppie’s mother.

The movie also boasts Anna-Mart van der Merwe, veteran Chris Gxalaba and Rolanda Marais. The director is the acclaimed screenwriter and playwright, Christiaan Olwagen.

The book, regarded as one of the best 20th century novels from Africa, was reprinted three times within four months of its release.

To date it has been translated into 13 languages and raked in numerous awards all over the world.

The much anticipated flick is set to be released sometime next year.
