Fifteen new political parties to contest 2019 elections: IEC

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it is receiving a number of applications by new political parties to contest the 2019 general elections.

In Limpopo the Gazankulu Liberation Congress has just registered to participate in the national polls.

 IEC chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo says thus far about 15 new political parties have registered.

Mamabolo says the commission is implementing plans to deliver successful elections.

“We now have over 500 political parties and we are processing a number of new political parties that are coming on board per week. We are processing about three political parties since the beginning  of the year. We have registered about 15 political parties or so. As regard to readiness, we have put together plans for 2019, we are beginning the process to implement those plans.”
