The annual Science Tube and Science Beyond Borders Festival took place in Kimberley this past week. Established in 2010, the three day festival exposes pupils to different Math and Science discoveries.

Participating provinces included Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Northern Cape. The festival celebrates the art of science, engineering and technology.

“You would know that in the NDP, one of the objectives is to boost learner participation in the MTS subjects which physical science is one of them. Therefore we believe that after this event, learners would have realised that science is fun and it will also encourage them to be innovative and creative,” says Elikana Mutsharini, Provincial MST Coordinator.

Pupils say the festival is exciting.

“Science is all about a lot of things and you learn more about the world and our technology,” says one student attending the festival.

The festival also exposes pupils to different career options like astronomy and meteorology.
