The family of a 28-year-old Polokwane man, who was murdered during a robbery, is devastated.
A spine-chilling video showing a group of boys from a local school heckling Thorisho Themane went viral over the weekend.
The SABC cannot broadcast the video due to its gruesome nature.
Themane was described as humble and friendly. Although physically frail, he was described as resilient and full of life.
His family says he was motivated by his love of music and was a gifted singer and a skilled keyboard player.
It is alleged Themane was killed next to a public park on his way home from a church service on Saturday.
His father Johannes Themane says that all their love was focused on him.
“All our love was focused on him. We did everything to support him school wise. Unlike the other two, he did not do well. So, he was so dear to us. He went to Johannesburg. He didn’t do well with his studies. So, we decided he should come back and study here so we could observe him.”
SAPS Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe has confirmed one suspect has been arrested and taken in for questioning.
“I can confirm that we have opened a case of murder. As I’m speaking now, I have taken one suspect for questioning. As it is still early, we will go deeper in to this matter and more arrests are expected. We are talking about plus minus 10 suspects. This is a worrying factor. We having criminal groupings emerging, but we are bulldozing them. With the help of community, we will win this.”
