Political analyst Andre Duvenhage says North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo should get worried ahead of a motion of no confidence in him.

Earlier, the ANC convenor for national executive members deployed to the province, Obed Bapela, said he was confident that party members in the provincial legislature would not support the motion.

The motion, brought by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) the EFF has brought is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

Speaker Suzan Dantjie on Friday rejected a request for voting on the motion to be conducted by secret ballot.

Duvenhage says there are very few factors working in Mahumapelo’s favour.

“The province is very dysfunctional, and by no means ready for national elections. There’s no leadership in at least three of the districts. So, I think Mahumapelo is surviving politically. We know he was very strongly aligned with former president Jacob Zuma – but there are few factors working in his favour.”
