Seventeen Gauteng children will get facial reconstructive surgery at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg as part of Smile Week.

The Smile Foundation assists children that require reconstructive surgery within South Africa. The surgeries include cleft lip and cleft palate repair.

The young patients range in age from just three months to 13 years.

The foundation’s CEO Hedley Lewis has also appealed to the public for donations.

“The Smile Foundation partners with Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in order to change children’s lives. Our objective is to assist the hospital in order to augment the incredible service and support currently happening. For us, it’s about supporting them where they need.”
