eThekwini Municipality Mayor Zandile Gumede has arrived at the Durban Commercial Crimes Court ahead of her appearance on Tuesday.
She allegedly handed herself over to the Hawks. Gumede is allegedly facing charges related to fraud and corruption to the amount of over 208 million rand.
Gumede will be appearing alongside three other accused.
Security has been beefed up in court with members of the Hawks from the national office and a strong media contingent.
Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says the state will put forward an opposing affidavit.
He says two of the accused hold public office and one is a service provider.
