Eskom urged to put Kusile, Medupi projects on hold

The DA has called on power utility Eskom to put on hold its Kusile and Medupi projects.

The party says the Meridian Economics Report on Eskom highlighted some possible answers to the financial crisis the power utility is currently facing.

It says the report suggested that Eskom postponed the building programme on a number of units at the Kusile and Medupi Power Stations.

However, the DA says Eskom rejected these proposals.

The power utility has told government that it is expected to run at a loss of R3.5 billion by the end of March next year.

The DA’s Natasha Mazzone says: “I have asked for an urgent meeting of  Public Portfolio Enterprises that Minister Lynne Brown can come and explain the current financial situation of Eskom.”
