Eskom denies reinstating Koko

Eskom has again denied reports that its suspended acting CEO Matshela Koko has been re-instated.

Earlier this year, Koko was accused of awarding Eskom contracts worth R1 billion to a company allegedly linked to his stepdaughter.

It was also reported that he was involved in approving a R650 million loan from Eskom to Gupta-linked Tegeta.

An inquiry is believed to have cleared him of all accusations.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says the power utility’s board is still considering the outcome of the inquiry after receiving the report on Friday.

“They are currently busy now studying that report. Once they are done reading the report and it’s recommendations they will then publicly inform the minister of public enterprises as the share holding minister to brief her about the outcome and then after that process they will officially share the document with the general public.”
