Equal Education pushes to correct school infrastructure law

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Bhisho High Court will on Thursday and Friday this week hear Equal Education’s case to fix the School Infrastructure Law, mainly in the Eastern Cape.

Members of Equal Education will be picketing outside the court.

The organisation wants to force government to deliver on the basic school infrastructure needed to fulfil the rights to dignity and the best interests of the child.

The School Infrastructure Law was passed by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga some five years ago.

The law stipulates that a school must have decent toilets, electricity, water, fencing, classroom numbers, libraries, laboratories and sports fields – something that remains just a dream for a number of, especially many rural and township schools all across the country.
