A new high voltage electricity substation has been officially opened to supply power to the community of Bambeni and surrounding villages near Giyani in Limpopo.

The Deputy Minister of the Department of Energy  Thembisile Majola opened the substation Tuesday.

It will supply electricity to over 20 000 households in the area.

Majola says this is a positive step towards improving livelihoods of people in rural areas.

“It is a very significant project because what this project means is that we would be able to increase electrification to households. Even more than that we would be able to support whatever industries are there. It is very important to have a substation like this one so that we make sure as the communities and the villages grow we are able to connect more people. We are able to also bring business people on board.”
