Embattled De Lille to continue with drought projects

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille says she will continue to be involved in water resilience and drought projects after seeking legal advice.

This comes after she was stripped of her powers to deal with drought issues by the Democratic Alliance (DA) leadership. De Lille is currently embroiled in a DA probe into an alleged fraud cover up in the City of Cape Town involving millions of rand.

Her spokesperson, Zara Nicholson, says lawyers say the powers to execute functions can only be removed if the mayor is absent or positions are vacant.

Nicholson says in a statement that none of the criteria exists for De Lille’s removal and her responsibilities cannot be taken over by the Deputy Mayor.
